WWE fans are just hours away from watching WWE Fastlane 2016. An interesting card is shaping up, but the conversation is about who will be the No. 1 contender by the end of WWE Fastlane. The No. 1 contender will face Triple H on wrestling’s biggest stage, WrestleMania 32. The rumors surrounding WWE Fastlane are heating up. Determining the outcome of the No. 1 contender leads to various possibilities.
The main event for WWE Fastlane is a triple-threat match between Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Each superstar has received a certain type of push over the past few weeks, ever since the WWE announced the triple-threat match on Monday Night Raw after the Royal Rumble. Several storylines were building up prior to the Royal Rumble regarding each WWE superstar leading up to the Rumble match.
Roman Reigns was the champ going into the match, with a huge stipulation that he had to win the Royal Rumble in order to remain on top. He started the match as the first entrant.
Whoever won the Rumble match would be the WWE champion. As most fans expected, Triple H was the final superstar to enter. He would become the champion before the end of the night.
Dean Ambrose was the last superstar in the ring with Triple H at the Royal Rumble. Once fans saw that it was Ambrose in the ring with ‘The Game,” they cheered loudly. It was the first true glimpse of Dean Ambrose in a main event setting. WWE fans enjoyed it, but how the WWE brass took it would factor into their decision to put him in the main event of WWE Fastlane.
Including Roman Reigns in Fastlane‘s triple-threat main event was a no-brainer. He was conceivably robbed of the title by Vince McMahon, Triple H and others. No one should have been surprised by him in the match.
As for Brock Lesnar, his initial storyline had him in a brewing feud with the Wyatt Family. Their feud was temporarily placed on hold after Bray Wyatt missed Monday Night Raw (courtesy of Cageside Seats) after Royal Rumble to be with his ailing grandfather. Whether or not they pick things back up will be revealed tonight at WWE Fastlane. It was the Wyatt Family who eliminated Brock Lesnar from the Royal Rumble. One of the expectations is that they will somehow be a factor in Fastlane’s triple-threat main event.
So what will happen at WWE Fastlane tonight?
The website WhatCulture is predicting that the Wyatts will take care of Brock Lesnar, leaving Roman Reigns to get the pin on Dean Ambrose. They come up with a scenario where Reigns could get his revenge on Triple H. It is a good possibility of that happening.
Blake Oestriecher from Forbes believes Dean Ambrose should be victorious in the triple-threat main event at WWE Fastlane.
If the WWE took a moment to listen to the reactions from the fans, the latter scenario would become what actually takes place at WWE Fastlane.
In building up promotions for WWE Fastlane, the story has been about how Dean Ambrose is not backing down from the fear Brock Lesnar. Ambrose has taken a bunch of F5’s as a result, but it has built up some vulnerability that fans love to see.
The storyline of Roman Reigns is tried and true. There is no doubting Reigns’ in-ring ability. Plus, his mic skills are vastly improved. Here lies a problem. Fans have seen a title run with Roman Reigns and he received a minimal pop at best. Although watching him finally square off with Triple H would be fun, it does little or nothing for the WWE title picture.
If WrestleMania is all about setting up the WWE for the future, as the WWE brass says it is, how much sense does it make to have either Triple H or Roman Reigns as the WWE World Champion?
WrestleMania 32 would mark 10 weeks since a WWE World Title defense has taken place. It is inexcusable for the WWE to have such a lengthy hiatus for its biggest prize to be fought for. Triple H is a champion whose inactivity would hurt the company going forward.
There is no sense in having Roman Reigns winning the title again, either. It also makes little sense for Roman Reigns to headline WrestleMania for a second year in a row.
It was long rumored that the reason why Triple H became an entrant in the Royal Rumble in the first place was because the Reigns title run was not going as well as expected. It could make the WWE title picture an afterthought, if he were to win at WWE Fastlane and WrestleMania 32. It would not be surprising to see Vince McMahon, or someone else, perhaps Samoa Joe or a member of The League of Nations, screw Reigns once again in an effort to ruin his title hopes again.
All of this is not to suggest that the WrestleMania 32 card would be a box office hit if Dean Ambrose were to win at Fastlane, but the direction of the company would be given some much-needed fresh air. Ambrose is the biggest face in the WWE amongst its full-time roster.
Rumors are pointing to either Dean Ambrose or Roman Reigns to win the triple-threat main event at WWE Fastlane, with Brock Lesnar left to pick up his feud with the Wyatt Family. The most predictable outcome would be for Roman Reigns to win. That does not necessarily set the WWE up for WrestleMania 32 or for the future. Can Dean Ambrose draw a crowd? It was proven at Royal Rumble that Ambrose versus Triple H would be a great look. The WWE does not need the title belt at stake for the Triple H and Roman Reigns feud to take place. It is time to clear up the muck. WWE Fastlane is the place.
